NewFoundAuthor Speaks!

This April saw the launch of Engen's newest title, NewFoundSpecFic, an anthology title highlighting the best in speculative fiction from all corners of the island.

Spearheaded by local Newfoundland authors Devin Drover and Jennifer Graham, NewFoundSpecFic is a quirky, interesting read that brings new ideas to the table regarding science fiction and fiction in general, and has already generated a wealth of positive buzz from fans and from inside the industry.

Its been a busy month for the entire NewFoundSpecFic team, with launches and book signings and conventions to go to, as well as planning future events like writing panels and, of course, future NFSF projects.

Standing amidst the chaos is Jennifer Graham, the author of both Sunny Days and Immune.

Jennifer has been writing science fiction short stories for years, and was told that it was an oddity in the province. Recently, upon connecting with other writers, she found that it was more common than she ever realized! It was from this that the idea to publish a collection of speculative fiction stories was birthed.

Enter Engen Books.

"Once we made the decision to publish, the process of publishing seemed enormous and a little overwhelming." revealed Graham, "I didn't even know where to start finding a printer, what a good price was, formating, and a whole laundry list of questions I hadn't even considered.

"I just assumed that all the authors I knew were traditionally published, and it was actually Devin who mentioned Engen. From there the idea of publishing under Engen books was suggested, and we jumped at it."

Ever the hard worker and entrepreneur, Graham and Drover are already hard at work on a followup collection, opening up submissions to all of Canada and trying to find all our countires untapped talent!
