Werewolves and a dark family secret in Northern Labrador!

Growing up without his father, Tyler had no way of knowing the horrible secret that has plagued his family for generations. To free himself and find the cure, he will have to look beyond himself and into his dark history.

As a twenty-something ne'er do well, Tyler is stuck in a rut. He works a dead-end job, gets high, and plays video games. The only bright spot in his life, his girlfriend Julie, is about to leave Newfoundland (and, by extension, Tyler) for law school. She knows that he's a smart, talented guy, but he's held back by familial trauma he refuses to confront.

Then the family curse, and the full moon, transforms Tyler into a werewolf, a fearsome beast with no memory of its humanity, driven by the call of the hunt.

It's only by diving into his past and exploring his family's history that Tyler has a hope of finding a cure. It is a journey that will take him north to Labrador and face to face with the terrible legacy of residential schools.

To make amends for a crime and appease an offended god, Tyler must choose between making a great sacrifice or living the rest of his life as a monster.

  • “A very ambitious novel… I like the idea that the horrors of everyday life can be worse than anything we can come up with in fiction. I also like the idea of using werewolves as a metaphor – to me this pushes the book a bit above much of what is out there… Brad [Dunne] is a very good writer and obviously has a deep background.”
    — Andrew Peacock, NLBA Award-Winning author of Creatures of the Rock and Bifocal.

“Brad Dunne’s first novel is a literary masterpiece. His ability to craft pure terror and suspense is brilliantly fused with heartbreaking emotion and real life feelings leaves the reader turning the page all the way to the end. Brad Dunne is a new, exciting voice in both the horror genre and Newfoundland fiction.”
    — Paul Carberry, bestselling author of Zombies on the Rock

“The perfect mix of suspense and literary storytelling, Werewolves as metaphor for the original sins of Newfoundland & Labrador make this book the best in its class ,”
    — Matthew LeDrew, author of Coral Beach Casefiles and Xander Drew.

“Dunne grabs you by the scruff of the neck in the opening scene and makes you watch as he takes a knife to his characters and peels them like an onion. When he’s done, every dark desire and hidden flaw is exposed and you’re left with nothing but tears in your eyes and an ache in your chest. It is a tale that is switches between time and location as the sins and choices of the past affect those in the here and now. Well researched, and well written, I highly recommend.”
    — Peter J Foote, bestselling author of Boulders Over the Bermuda Triangle
