In 1999, Dwain Campbell released one of the original works of explorative genre fiction in Newfoundland, paving the way for all who came after and earning him the title of 'The Godfather of Newfoundland Genre Fiction.'
Twenty-Five years later, Engen Books is proud and honoured to release Tales from the Frozen Ocean - The 25th Anniversary Edition and bring this seminal piece of Newfoundland literature back to print.
With updated layout, composition, and typography, this new edition of the book is a must-have for any lover of Newfoundland genre fiction and will be available in three formats: print, for the first time in eBook, and as a part of our Greatest Fantasy by Newfoundlanders collection, coming in early 2025.
From the back cover: "Colin Aintree aspires to nothing more than a mundane life: a house by the bay. Children. A job he can stand. But all that is denied to him as he is beset by new and strange powers of clairvoyance that causes in consciousness to careen through The Borderlands, a seemingly infinite dimension not unlike a psychic internet.
This is compounded by the fact that Newfoundland, with its dark folklore and odd uniqueness, is the last place from which one should have logged on to that internet.
With the help of an ancient Irish nun who is more than what she seems, Colin must contend with the warring factions of both Heaven and Hell in a fight for his very existence."
About the author: Dwain Campbell is originally from Sussex, New Brunswick, Canada. After his university years in Nova Scotia, he journeyed farther east to begin a teaching career in Newfoundland. Thirty-eight years later, he is semi-retired in St. John’s. Contemporary fantasy is his genre of choice, and Atlantic Canada is a rich source of inspiration. He is author of Tales from the Frozen Ocean (Jesperson Press, 1999), Strange Duty (Engen Books, 2023) and has contributed stories to Canadian Tales of the Fantastic, Tesseracts 17, and Fantastic Trains.
