Engen announces new acquisitions editor for non-fiction

Engen Books Ltd. is pleased to announce that Amanda Labonté has joined our team as Acquisitions Editor for our newly launched Non-Fiction division.

“Amanda is a dedicated member of our board, a fierce activist within the literary community, and a keen business person,” said Matthew LeDrew, head of marketing and sales. “With her background in writing and journalism I look forward to what she can accomplish as head of our new non-fiction division.”

Labonté published her first book, a young adult fantasy novel titled Call of the Sea, in 2015. She has gone on to write more than half a dozen fiction books. Prior to launching her creative writing career, she spent several years as a journalist; her new role heading Engen’s non-fiction division is a return to these roots.

“I am very excited to be taking on this new role with Engen Books,” Labonté said. “The opportunity to help create a vision for a brand new division is something I approach with both a great deal of responsibility and pride.”

With this new division, Engen hopes to add to the diversity of narratives about the culture of Newfoundland and Labrador by promoting stories from established and up and coming writers that will appeal to readers both in our province and around the world.

Non-fiction submissions will open in the new year. Watch for announcements in the coming weeks.
